10 Reasons to Buy a Goose Down Duvet
10 Reasons to Buy a Goose Down Duvet

1. Hygroscopic

Goose down has the ability to absorb moisture and break it down. As we sleep, we all perspire which is a natural part of the sleeping process. If left on the skin the moisture can become cold and affect our temperature which can lead to our sleep being disturbed. The large fluffy clusters of down draw this moisture away from our bodies, helping us to keep our temperature consistent throughout the night.

2. Breathes

Fluffy, snow like goose down clusters encased within fine 100% cotton casings - all natural and all breathable. Air circulation is paramount for our health - both external and internal and this is just as important as we sleep. Goose down and cotton allow our skin to breathe, they enhance the sleeping environment by providing the perfect circulation in order to promote a deep and healthy sleep.

3. Traps Air

Goose down is like a large , fluffy snowflake - unlike a feather it has no quill, just long feather arms which are furry - a mass of very fine, furry arms. This hairy mass holds air molecules and it is this air that warms or cools according to our body temperature. It is nature's own way of keeping the geese warm in winter and cool in summer and is indeed, the best covering for us as we sleep.

4. Regulates Temperature

The hygroscopic ability of goose down along with its innate properties to 'breathe' and trap air are the main factors that give goose down its most beneficial attribute. Goose down duvets help to regulate our temperature whilst we sleep. Temperature can be a major factor in disturbed sleep patterns, if our bodies are too cold or too hot then we will probably wake up to adjust the duvet - pull it up closer or kick it off - whichever is required. We may fall asleep straight away or we may find it slightly harder to enter the world of slumber again but if we can stop that interruption then we create a deeper. more fulfilled sleep night after night. A goose down duvet will use all of its innate properties to ensure that you, personally get a sleeping environment which is sensitively suited to your body temperature, helping you to get that perfect night's sleep.

5. Beautifully Light

Goose down duvets are beautifully light yet fluffy and this in itself can enhance the quality of our sleep. A heavier covering may need to be dragged along with us as we turn over but a high quality goose down duvet will move with us again, causing less disturbance to our sleep and allowing us to simply sleep the perfect sleep.

6. Excellent Drape

The drape of the fabric is a vital contribution to a high quality duvet. A finely woven cotton fabric can drape like silk and one of the main reasons that the prices differ between goose down duvets is because of the fine fabric casing. The fabric encasing the goose down allows it to drape around the contours of our body while we sleep. The better the drape, the more our bodies are covered as we sleep ensuring that our sleeping environment is not disturbed by drafts coming through large, tent like gaps between our bodies and the mattress or our partner's bodies.

7. Allergenic

Many people believe that they are allergic to goose down but there are actually very few people who have this condition - it is more likely that the house dust mite is to blame. What we think may have happened over the years is this ; goose down duvets need a good shake every morning to redistribute the goose down within - we think that the shaking of the duvet has obviously disturbed any house dust mites within the vicinity and people with allergies have reacted accordingly. The dust mites are actually around the room and not within the duvet. All goose down needs to be encased within a tightly woven fabric which has a more closed weave - this enclosed weave is needed so that the down remains within the casing. The nature of this fabric creates a barrier to the house dust mite as it is unable to penetrate the tightly woven fabric and even if the dust mite could get through it would not wish to live in such an inhabitable environment.

8. Fully Washable

Goose down duvets are fully washable at 60C. It is recommended that they are taken to a laundrette or laundered professionally as they require a large drum so as not to damage the goose down, a natural soap detergent must also be used. The goose down duvet must then be dried immediately and thoroughly in a dryer on a low setting.
