Why Goose Down is the Best Material to Sleep Under

Goose down is the finest material to sleep under and one that you will not believe until you have tried - this we guarantee. Goose down is like a little fluffy snowflake and is found under the feathers of the geese. Feathers are used for flight and for their waterproof qualities - down is what is used to insulate the goose and is tucked away close to its body.

The feathery 'arms' of the down are used to trap heat and air as well as absorb any moisture. The combination of these three once working together ensure that the goose is at the perfect temperature whether it be the height of summer or the middle of winter.

Brinkhaus select only the finest goose down from their own geese which are treated like royalty and given the best in every way - A goose that is looked after well produces the finest goose down. Once encased within a cotton cover this goose down provides you with the perfect combination under which to sleep and dream.

Die Zudecke have chosen the three countries of Canada, Poland and Hungary to source the finest goose down for their goose down duvets. The Canadian is their most luxurious down which is collected from geese that live in one of the healthiest and coldest climates on earth - the perfect combination to create the perfect down with optimised insulation properties.

The goose down works with your own body temperature and will take away any excess heat and moisture - keeping you the perfect temperature throughout summer. During the cold months of winter the goose down traps the heat and makes sure that you remain warm and snug whilst you sleep.

A goose down duvet will drape over your body like a silken delight and will cosset you throughout the sleepy nights.

Choosing the right duvet

Choosing the perfect duvet can prove to be a very confusing experience, what with tog ratings, sizes and different down varieties. Here we will explain the differences between them so that you are able to make the correct decision and sleep soundly night after night.

Which Tog should I choose?

Firstly you should decide which tog is going to suit you better. The tog rating is the warmth of a duvet and is determined by the quality and quantity of the down used for its filling. Remember that the weight of a duvet has no relation to its tog rating - a duvet which is very light can be extremely warm, again it comes down to the quality of down used.

3 & 4.5 tog
Used for the height of summer or for children who are unable to regulate their temperatures as well as adults ( please note that duvets and pillows are not recommended for children under 12 months)

6.0 tog
Use for summer if you get cold in bed or use for spring & autumn if you get very hot in bed, again a good duvet for children

9.0 tog
Use for spring & autumn if you get hot in bed

10.5 tog
Use for spring & autumn or winter in houses that have central heating on at night time

12.0 tog
Use for winter in warmer houses

13.5 tog
Use for winter in a cooler house or if you get cold at night

Four seasons : A combination of two duvets which are held together using ties. This duvet consists of a 4.5 tog and a 9 tog. Use the 4.5 tog for the summer months and join them together for the cold winter nights. Please note that this duvet will arrive as two seperate duvets which have button holes in each corner, allowing them to be tied together and placed into your duvet cover as one duvet.

Please remember that a natural duvet does work with your natural body heat anyway and it will drape around your body, unlike a synthetic duvet, so there will be no draughts to give you a chill during the night.
The points to consider are whether you are an extremely hot or cold blooded person and whether you have central heating on throughout the night or have your windows open. Should you need any help in choosing your tog then please feel free to contact us and ask any questions that you may have.

The comfort factor with a natural down pillow is second to none, down is the softest, snuggliest and cosiest filling for any pillow, your head will sink into slumber with these pillows... guaranteed!
